Abbeyfield Motueka
Chairman's report to the 2006 Annual General Meeting of Abbeyfield Motueka Inc
This will be my briefest Annual Report, primarily because the last 12 months (2005-2006) have gone not only quickly but for the most part, very smoothly. This situation particularly reflects favorably on the efforts of our housekeeper Lynley, also the House Committee ably chaired and directed by Eileen Wilkins, and the conscientious and thorough work by our reappointed Treasurer, Judith Lucre. It has made my work as Chairman comfortably smooth, although the three people I have mentioned have encountered some difficulties at different times. (They will undoubtedly report on those in their own reports).
At Annual Meeting time it is unfortunate that we often farewell long-serving and loyal members. I have received letters of resignation from our secretary, Pam Gatenby and from Rex Riddell who has filled various roles for Abbeyfield since its beginnings. Pam has been an excellent secretary, nothing ever seems to be a bother or inconvenience to her, her minutes and letters on our behalf express succinctly the messages of the meeting. Thank you very much Pam for your huge contribution to Abbeyfield Motueka. We know you will continue to be very positive about our Abbeyfield concept.
Rex has spent 11 years serving Abbeyfield and has played vital roles in fund-raising, keeping records of residents and potential residents, and being an active member of the management committee. I understand Rex's reasons for his resignation and want to formally record my thanks to Rex personally, and for his commitment to Abbeyfield and support to the Motueka Society.
The coming year, at this point, promises to be just as pleasant as that just completed. Our Abbeyfield house is fully occupied (with nine singles and one couple); our finances are on a more stable basis with our arrangements over the TDC loan settled, and a weekly residents charge relating to the projected budget; the garden and grounds well maintained; and most importantly our residents I consider happily reflect the Abbeyfield objective of being both independent and social.
Finally, I would like to thank the committee for their tolerance and support during the year. Our meetings have proceeded easily without too much argument and even the divisions over difficult decisions have been accepted generously. As a group of volunteers who are managing a not-for-profit organisation for elderly residents I consider it is important that we continue to work together harmoniously and cheerfully.
