The History and Purpose of the Trust
The Abbeyfield Foundation Trust was established in 1999. Its object is to provide or facilitate the provision of housing and accommodation for elderly and socially disadvantaged people in New Zealand. To achieve this worthy objective it
- Provides the funds to establish Abbeyfield Societies
- Provides funding to acquire, establish, construct, furnish and equip suitable houses to be managed by an Abbeyfield Society
- Provides funds for the refurbishment of Abbeyfield houses
- Acts as a repository for funds held for the benefit of Abbeyfield Societies
The Trust is a registered Charity and is tax exempt. Donations to the Trust by individuals qualify for a tax rebate. Donations by Companies are tax deductable, subject to certain limits. Bequests to the Trust are exempt of estate or gift duties.
The impetus leading to the formation of the Abbeyfield Foundation Trust was a donation of $31,268.20 made by the Presbyterian and Methodist Women's Fellowship in November 1999. The Fellowship had made Abbeyfield one of the two projects to be supported in their 1998/9 financial year. Abbeyfield determined that such a generous gesture should form the foundation of a lasting legacy.
Funds from this initial donation to the Trust, and additional contributions received from Societies operating Abbeyfield houses in subsequent years, have been loaned interest free to local Societies to assist them develop their projects. Monies not loaned in this way are invested.
The funds held by the Trust have slowly grown to $50,593 at March 31 2010.
The Trustees would welcome additional support in the form of donations or legacies. If you are interested in obtaining more information on contributing please contact the Trustees at the address below, or discuss making a bequest with your legal representative.
