Dame Rosie Horton DNZM QSO QSM was born in Christchurch, grew up in Ashburton and has lived in Auckland for the past 50 years, Rosie supports a number of charities and is a highly respected philanthropist and mentor for the charitable sector.
As a founding trustee of the Foundation and Friends of Starship. Rosie has campaigned to give New Zealand children the best medical care through raising vital funds from the community. She is also a founding trustee and was Chairwoman of the Breast Cancer Foundation from 1995-2005.
She is also ambassador for the Auckland Medical School’s Brain Research Trust and raising awareness of macular degeneration.
In 2011 Rosie was made a Dame Companion of the NZ Order of Merit in recognition of her 40 years of charity work – working with many children’s charities and groups helping the sick, disabled, animals, womens refuge, the environment and the performing arts.
She was honoured with a Mayor’s Living Legend Award and awarded the Catherine Sheridan Award from Variety, was a Social Entrepreneur award winner in 2013 and represented New Zealand at the EY World Entrepreneur awards in Monte Carlo.
Married to Michael Horton, Rosie has a daughter, two stepsons and five grandchildren.
