First Abbeyfield house celebrates 30th birthday
The Abbeyfield St Francis Way house in Nelson, which was the first Abbeyfield house to be set up in New Zealand, recently celebrated its 30th birthday. The occasion was marked with a special afternoon tea, attended by residents, staff, current and former committee members and supporters.
Nelson Mayor Nick Smith also attended and was a guest speaker. Pictured left is Abbeyfield Nelson chair Graeme Thomas and resident Heather Norman, who has lived at the house the longest, cutting the birthday cake made by housekeeper Jilly Deacon. Here is a video featuring residents talking about living at the house, along with house manager Diane Ramsay, paying tribute to the committee members who established the house.
