Rhodes Abbeyfield

Rhodes Abbeyfield house is located in the Christchurch suburb of Wigram, close to bus services, shops, cafes and restaurants, a medical centre and pharmacy. The house is in a quiet lane and looks out on to a pleasant reserve.

The purpose-built house opened in 2019 and caters for 14 residents. It is north-facing and attractively landscaped and the roomy studio units are complemented by spacious common living areas and gardens.

The house was developed by Abbeyfield in partnership with Rhodes Memorial Convalescent Home Incorporated (Rhodes Trust). Rhodes Trust is a longstanding Christchurch charity which has provided residential care in the city since 1887. When the Christchurch earthquakes destroyed its facility, the trust began to investigate the best way to progress their mission into the future. The trust felt the Abbeyfield model of affordable supported housing for older people best matched its aims and vision.

Rhodes Trust owns the house and leases it to Abbeyfield Properties, Abbeyfield New Zealand’s property development arm. The house is managed by Abbeyfield Wigram.
