Survey shows changing housing circumstances

Surveys of new residents moving in to Abbeyfield houses show changes in residents’ housing circumstances. In the most recent two-year period, there was a big jump in the number of residents who rented before moving to an Abbeyfield house, and a corresponding drop in the number who owned their own home.

Abbeyfield surveys all new residents to gather statistical information and feedback on their experience of moving into an Abbeyfield house. Recently we collated the results of new resident surveys for the past two years. Here are some key points:

  • Nearly 60% of new residents rented before moving to Abbeyfield – a big jump from nearly 40% in the previous survey from 2019-21.
  • Only 13% owned their own home, compared with 31% in the previous survey.
  • Residents commented that the best things about living at Abbeyfield were companionship, helpful staff, healthy meals, good facilities and peace of mind.

Here is a summary of the results, which includes some of the comments from residents.
