Fundraising

Empower communities. Enrich later life. Support your local Abbeyfield

Why fundraise for Abbeyfield?

Your support helps us:

  • Keep residents active by providing engaging activities like gardening clubs, movie nights and educational talks
  • Keep people connected and create lasting memories with day trips to museums, parks or the beach in the summer.
  • Provide energy efficient, comfortable homes that will meet the growing demand for housing suited to older people now and in the future.
  • Develop our communities and improve resident quality of life by providing inviting outdoor spaces and communal areas where residents can relax, socialise and connect with nature.
  • Support our dedicated team of hundreds of volunteers who bring joy, companionship and valuable assistance to our residents every day.

Every Abbeyfield community has its own needs, priorities and ideas. Fundraising could support a local garden project, new furniture for a shared lounge, resident activities, house improvements or community events.

If you would like to organise a fundraiser, Abbeyfield can help you turn your idea into something that makes a real difference. Whether it is a small gathering with friends or a larger community event, your effort can help older people enjoy a more connected and fulfilling later life.

Fundraise for Abbeyfield

From bake sales and raffles to quiz nights, garden parties, sponsored walks and community events, there are many ways to raise funds for Abbeyfield. The most important thing is to choose something you enjoy and invite others to be part of it.

Whether you are planning a small event with friends or a larger community fundraiser, every effort can make a difference. We can provide ideas, resources and guidance to help you get started.

Make it enjoyable

Fundraising should feel rewarding as well as useful. Choose an activity that suits your interests, skills or community.

You might enjoy baking, gardening, walking, music, sport, crafts or bringing people together over a shared meal. Often the best fundraising events grow from something people already love doing.

Your fundraiser could be:

  • A morning tea, bake sale or sausage sizzle
  • A quiz night, raffle or movie evening
  • A community lunch, garden tour or garage sale
  • A sponsored walk, run, cycle or other personal challenge
  • A concert, art sale or craft market
  • A workplace fundraiser or casual-dress day
  • A birthday or celebration where guests donate instead of bringing gifts

Planning your event

Once you have chosen your idea, give yourself plenty of time to plan. Think about who you would like to involve, where the event could be held and what support you might need.

A local hall, café, workplace, school, sports club or community space may be happy to help. Let them know you are raising money for Abbeyfield. They may be able to offer a reduced venue fee, donate goods or services, or help promote your event.

Keep your plans simple and realistic. A small, well-organised event can be just as successful and meaningful as a large one.

Promoting your fundraiser

Tell people why Abbeyfield matters to you and how their support will help older people in your community. A personal story, photo or short message can encourage people to get involved.

You can promote your fundraiser by:

  • Sharing it with friends, family, neighbours and colleagues
  • Posting regular updates on Facebook, LinkedIn or community noticeboards
  • Asking local businesses or groups to share your event
  • Creating a simple event poster or invitation
  • Sharing your fundraising goal and celebrating progress along the way
  • Thanking everyone who donates, attends or helps spread the word

If you are collecting donations, check with your local Abbeyfield house or Abbeyfield New Zealand about the best way to do this. They can advise on donation forms, online giving options and how to make sure funds reach the right place.

Make your impact go further

  • You may be able to increase the impact of your fundraising even more.
  • Ask your employer whether they offer donation matching or workplace giving.
  • Invite a local business to sponsor an event, donate a raffle prize or provide refreshments.
  • Encourage friends and family to share your fundraiser with their own networks.
  • Consider making your fundraiser an annual event that your community can look forward to.

Every donation, event and conversation helps build stronger communities for older people.
