WWII veteran Keith Faulkner, a resident at Abbeyfield…
Abbeyfield NZ chairman, Simon Hayes, has received two awards recently for his outstanding community service.
Simon was presented with the Spirit of Senior Support award by the Wakatipu Community Foundation, for his involvement with Abbeyfield and long service to organisations such as Queenstown RSA and Queenstown Lions. Simon has been an Abbeyfielder since 1989 and has been on the Abbeyfield NZ board since 2014. He is pictured right working hard at Abbeyfield’s 2019 national conference.
Simon was also recently awarded the Lions service club’s highest honour – a Melvin Jones Fellowship – for his outstanding service to the Queenstown Lions and the wider community. The award recognised his involvement in many projects, including the Heads Up for Kids project, which has raised about $750,000 to fund educational programmes for young New Zealanders. The Mountain Scene newspaper ran a story on his Lions award.
