About this house
Te Rau Aroha, the Abbeyfield house in Manukau, was completed in late 2024. The name Te Rau Aroha reflects the tikanga of love, hospitality and support for the people who live here.
It is a family-style home catering for 12 kaumātua or older people, where they can enjoy each others’ company and live like a big whānau. Each resident has their own private studio room with ensuite bathroom. Most studios have their own patio or balcony.
A housekeeper provides two meals a day plus a self-serve breakfast, looks after the shared living areas and keeps an eye on residents’ well-being.
The house is situated in a quiet neighbourhood, close to the main shopping area in central Manukau and local parks. It is managed by a local committee of volunteers and their contribution ensures the residents’ rents are kept at an affordable level and residents are well supported.
We are grateful for the financial support we received to develop this house, via grants from Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the philanthropic Stevenson Trust.
