An existing Abbeyfield house in Hornby, Christchurch
About this development
Abbeyfield Waimakariri is working with Abbeyfield New Zealand and the local community to establish an Abbeyfield house in Rangiora.
We have identified a suitable site for the house in Kingsbury Ave and the Waimakariri District Council has agreed to enter into a 33-year lease for the site, which is owned by the council.
The house will cater for 12-14 independent older people, providing a warm comfortable home and companionship. Three Abbeyfield houses already operate successfully in the greater Christchurch area.
Abbeyfield Waimakariri is now focusing on sourcing funding to develop the house. We would like to connect with people and organisations who share our vision of providing affordable housing for older people, or who want to support our initiative. You can support us by making a donation, or by shopping at the stall we have at the Church Street Market in Rangiora, held on the first Saturday of each month except January.
