Abbeyfield Waimakariri – planned development

Abbeyfield Hornby

An existing Abbeyfield house in Hornby, Christchurch

Can you help build a senior's future today?

Elsewhere on this website you will read about the Abbeyfield mission to help seniors who, for whatever reason, have limited resources, are often socially isolated, and just need somewhere to live independently and safely.

Life is too short for a senior person to live with loneliness and financial pressures.

Abbeyfield Waimakariri Inc now has the perfect site in Kingsbury Ave, Rangiora, to build a house where 14 independent seniors can rent one of the purpose-built ensuite studio apartments in a supported family-life setting.

Now our focus is on fundraising to develop that Abbeyfield house.

That’s where you come in. There are several ways you can help:

  • Donate on this website’s donation page, ensuring you mention Waimakariri in your comment.
  • Donate directly into our bank account: Abbeyfield Waimakariri Inc 03-0674-0279642-000, ensuring you put your name in the reference field. Abbeyfield Waimakariri is a registered charity (CC59911). Donations over $5 are tax deductible and we issue receipts for tax rebates. Please email [email protected] to give us contact details for receipting purposes.
  • Join us as a member for just $10 annually to show your support, receive newsletters and vote at our AGM.
  • Volunteer to help us at events or fundraise for us.
  • Buy preserves from our regular Church Street market in Rangiora held on the first Saturday of each month (except January) and at other community markets around the district.
  • Encourage your own groups/organisations to share our vision and support our initiatives.

If you would like to pursue any of the options above, or receive our quarterly newsletter, contact [email protected]

While our development is not yet under way, we invite expressions of interest from prospective residents to go on our waiting list. Please register your interest by clicking on the button below.

Promises for all Auction

The drive to build a flatting-for-seniors Abbeyfield House in Rangiora is in full swing with one major fund-raising event attracting a lot of attention.

Anyone who would like to see their name used in a novel, or promote their business on air, then next month’s Abbeyfield Auction of Promises is the place to go.

They are just two of the 40 lots valued between $100 and $6000 to go under the hammer at the Rangiora RSA on Saturday May 16.

“This style of fundraising has created considerable interest in the community and we are extremely grateful for the wide range of services, experiences, accommodation and tours donated for it,” says Mrs Valda Reveley, chair of Abbeyfield Waimakariri Inc.

Some other items are accommodation in several holiday spots, golf at Clearwater, pottery lessons, a full skin check, being driven to a winery lunch in a Lamborghini, a date with Gloria (a classic 1935 Triumph car), family fun time at Hanmer Springs, a flying lesson, a chance to be the auctioneer of several lots on the night, and a trip to Quail Island in Lyttleton Harbour.

Tickets are $20 per person and available from Humanitix (Abbeyfield Auction of Promises) or email: [email protected]
